Angela Browne
An expert in qualitative research, Angela has developed interactive consultation tools which reassure young people from all backgrounds and encourage them to communicate openly and honestly.
Her work was recently highlighted by a Market Research Society nomination for research excellence in the fields of Public Policy and Social Research. In 2005 The Social Exclusion Unit (now the Social Exclusion Taskforce) commissioned QA Research to conduct ten focus groups in England for the ‘Young People with Troubled Lives’ Transitions project.
Adapting techniques normally designed to communicate with disabled children, Angela created a series of fun activity-based sessions which were easy to understand and suited to the needs of this challenging target audience.
Her contribution to the Transitions report led to a leading role in the “Breaking the Cycle” youth offending consultations and a special seminar at Clarence House. Her knowledge of socially excluded young people persuaded them to highlight their experiences and talk openly about their lives.
At the seminar at Clarence House on 5th December 2006 the young ex-offenders articulated the benefits of the voluntary sector projects they had been part of and assessed the influence this involvement had on their ability to avoid re-offending.
A graduate of the University of Leeds, Angela currently works evenings as a youth worker and has an MSc in Youth Work and Community Development.
A keen traveller, Angela recently completed the coast to coast trip across the US. Closer to home, she enjoys camping and the odd whiskey at weekends!
