Business Surveys for Bracknell Forest Council

Infrastructure and Skills Business Surveys

Bracknell Forest Council’s newly created Economic and Skills Development Partnership (EDSP) has a remit to promote the Borough to businesses to encourage inward and re-investment, and to ensure firms are able to grow, gain the skills they need and have access to high quality infrastructure.

Aims of the research

In order to inform the EDSP’s strategy Qa Research was commissioned to undertake two separate surveys amongst businesses from across the Bracknell Forest area.

The first survey was designed to establish how a range of different aspects of the infrastructure of the Borough are viewed by businesses and what improvements they would like to see going forward.

The second survey explored businesses skills needs and the extent to which they felt these skills could be found within the Borough. Questions uncovered experiences and attitudes towards recruitment and retention of suitable employees in Bracknell.

Methodology

For each survey, 300 interviews were completed via our in-house Contact Centre using our Computer Aided Telephone Interviewing (CATI) system. We designed two separate surveys in conjunction with the EDSP and then interviewed a representative sample of local businesses from a range of sectors for each survey.

To provide further insight in to the views of some of Bracknell’s largest businesses for the infrastructure survey, we also conducted 5 in-depth telephone interviews with those in senior management positions that had a role in where that particular business unit was located.

Outcomes

We produced two separate written reports of the results for each of the skills and infrastructure studies.

The findings have subsequently been used to inform the development of the Local Economic Strategy.
