Qa surveying the elderly for NHS West Sussex

Qa has been commissioned by NHS West Sussex and West Sussex County Council to conduct a large scale telephone survey of its elderly residents.

The survey will investigate the views of those aged over 65 regarding issues relating to their health and feelings of loneliness and isolation.

A total of 2,800 elderly residents will be surveyed by interviewers at Qa’s in-house telephone contact centre. All of which are specially trained to conduct surveys focusing on sensitive subjects.

Our final report will reveal the current levels of social isolation, frequency of community based activity and the general health of elderly residents in the locality. Our recommendations will enable West Sussex NHS and the local authority to be more targeted and improve support services to this vulnerable audience.

The study also builds on our growing understanding of the causes and impact that loneliness and isolation can have on communities. In particular following the work we are doing with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation where we are evaluating their Neighbourhood Approaches to Loneliness Programme.
