York Business Barometer Privacy Information

All tourism, hospitality, retail and tourism-related businesses based or operating in York are invited to take part in the York Business Barometer Survey. The survey will only take around 2 minutes to complete online. 

Qa Research: The York Business Barometer is conducted by Qa Research, an independent market research agency, for the York Tourism Advisory Board (TAB). Qa Research is a Market Research Society Company Partner, and this research will be carried out according to the Market Research Society’s Code of Conduct. 

York Tourism Advisory Board (TAB):  A network of tourism, hospitality and leisure organisations that provides leadership, advocacy, direction and challenge for the city’s visitor economy. The Tourism Advisory Board meets regularly to oversee delivery of the tourism strategy and maintain ongoing collaboration between stakeholders.  

How to take part: If you have been contacted by email by TAB or Qa, please click on the link provided to complete the survey, or if you have seen a QR code you can use that to access the survey. You can choose to take part once or if you are happy to do so, provide consent to take part in the all four quarters of the 2026-2027 survey between June 2026- May 2027. Taking part is voluntary and you can opt out at any time. 

Purpose of the survey: The York Business Barometer enables the York Tourism Advisory Board to be as informed as possible about York businesses and provides:  

  • Awareness of confidence in future business levels so it can be informed about issues impacting the industry 
  • Performance by sector so it can provide additional support and advice where it is most needed 
  • Insights for media stories and press releases that raise the profile of York tourism 

About the results: This research is confidential, and your responses will be anonymous. Qa Research will collect and analyse responses and provide findings to York Tourism Advisory Board in aggregated format (not at individual business level). You can request to receive a copy of the summary report.

Your contact details If you have previously provided TAB with your contact details, TAB may send you an invitation to take part in the survey, but they will not share your contact details with Qa and TAB will not know if you take part in the survey or not. When you take part in the survey you will be asked if you would like to take part each quarter during the 2026-2027 survey. If you do share your name and email address, this will only be used by Qa to send you the York Business Barometer Survey and if you request it, a copy of the summary report in the month following the survey. Qa will not share your name or email address with TAB. You can opt out at any time by contacting lisa.downie@qaresearch.co.uk 

Your answers: The research is confidential, though there is a chance you may be identifiable from any comments you make in the survey, so we request that you do not provide information in your answers that could identify you or your organisation. Once you have submitted your response, Qa may not be able to identify you from your answers, in which case they will not be able to delete your responses if you later change your mind about taking part.  

Data retention: Responses to the Apr 2025-May 2026 York Business Barometer survey, including your name and email address if you provide it in the survey, will be collected quarterly and will be retained by Qa for 12 months after the 2025 -2026 survey has been completed in May 2026, then securely deleted.
