Brand Perception Research for Northern Accelerator
Northern Accelerator is a collaboration between Durham, Newcastle, Northumbria, Sunderland, Teeside and York Universities; providing support to academics and business leaders.
About this research
Northern Accelerator is doing a brand perception research survey and in-depth interviews with stakeholders of Northern Accelerator to gather insights from individuals and organisations to better understand how Northern Accelerator is perceived and provide insight that will help determine how research commercialisation activities are promoted and communicated in the future. Northern Accelerator has commissioned Qa Research, an independent research company, to carry out this research.
Your views matter, and we would very much appreciate you sharing them by taking part in the research.
You will have been invited to take part either in an online survey or an interview with a researcher.
How the data we collect will be used
This research is confidential. All your answers to the online survey will be passed back to Jordan Christie at Northern Accelerator. They will not try to identify you they will only be used for research purposes. Any research reports will only contain anonymous data, which means you will not be named, nor identifiable from any opinions you gave.
How to take part
Taking part in this research is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw from the research by contacting Lisa.Downie@qaresearch.co.uk If we are able to identify your survey and/or interview responses we will delete them. Once data has been analysed and sent to Northern Accelerator, we will not be able to remove your responses from the research.
Online survey Qa Research is carrying out the online survey. You can take part by filling in the online questionnaire. You will be sent a direct link to participate in the survey.
Interviews Qa Research is carrying out one-to-one interviews to explore survey responses in more depth. These will be taking place on teams, but if you would prefer, we can do these on the telephone or Zoom – we are happy to accommodate your preference. If you would like the opportunity to take part in an in-depth interview, please sign-up for this at the end of the online survey. You will then be contacted by Qa Research. Your contact details will not be shared with Northern Accelerator.
Recording and analysis of interviews
The researcher will make an audio and video recording of your Teams, telephone or Zoom interview. They will use CoLoop AI technology to transcribe the audio recording and help them analyse your answers. They will only use your first name when talking to you and no contact details will be included in the recording or uploaded to CoLoop. The recording and transcription will not be shared with Northern Accelerator or anyone outside of Qa. Quotes will be included in the report but Qa will take particular care to ensure you are not identifiable.
Data retention
Northern Accelerator will retain a copy of the information you provide in a secure environment on Durham University servers with access restricted to those who require it for the legitimate purposes as detailed. The information that you provide will be retained until 31st March 2032 then they will be securely destroyed/ deleted.
Qa Research will securely delete/ destroy contact data databases provided by Northern Accelerator within 4 months of completion of this research project and your survey responses/ audio/ video recordings/ full transcripts 12 months after completion of this research project.
Privacy information
Durham University is the data controller for this research (Data controllers ‘determine the purposes and means of processing personal data’). The legal basis for this research is legitimate interest. Northern Accelerators Privacy Policy can be found at Privacy Notices – Durham University

How Qa Research keep your information safe: Qa Research hold Cyber Essentials certification and use a wide range of technology to ensure personal data is processed, stored and transferred in a secure way. Your data will be processed in the US if you take part via Zoom and when Qa Research use CoLoop AI to transcribe the interview and help them review the findings. Once interviews and analysis have been completed, data will be deleted from Zoom and CoLoop and stored by Qa in the UK.
